In Tokyo with Tokyo Lee-Digging Beneath The Surface

Still in Tokyo running around on egg sandwiches and little sleep. I woke up and ran to Minowa station to meet Tokyo Lee. He’s been in Tokyo since the 1990’s documenting. We took the first 20 minutes to nerd out about our cameras. Digital and film. I brought my Nikon F5 and he had his Contax T2. We made our way through old neighborhoods that were losing the fight to gentrification. A story I know well from living in the States. Old markets and shuttered stores. I watched him excitedly taking photos of a fruit stand like it was his first time there. I like listening to the photography masters. If you listen closely they will give you knowledge and wisdom from a perspective that only comes with age and experience. We walked and talked for hours. Before I knew it we were back at the train station and I was getting hungry again. Photos came out just like I saw them.
